What we keep

Browsing

You can look through cities and places without an account. We don't ask for your name to do that.

The last city you open is saved in your browser, on this device, so the homepage can offer to continue there. That stays on your device. It is not sent to us as an account record.

If you sign in

Sign-in is through Google or X. We receive the name, email address, and account identifier those services share, and we keep a session so you stay signed in. We use that to show your saved places and the submissions tied to you.

Places you save are stored with your account. Only you see that list.

Places you submit

A submission includes the city, category, name, address, an optional website, and a short description. It is tied to your account so you can see what you sent. It is not public until an editor approves it. If it is approved, the place itself is visible to anyone. Your name is not shown on the public card.

What we don't do

We don't sell personal information. We don't use your account to advertise to you, and we don't hand your saved places to other companies for their own marketing.

Maps and address lookup

The map tiles are served by CARTO, from OpenStreetMap data. Loading a map sends the usual request data, including your IP address, to that tile service.

When you submit a place, we may look up the address with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service so the pin can be placed. A directions link leaves this site and opens Google Maps.

How long we keep it

Account details and saved places stay while the account exists. An approved listing stays in the public directory. You can ask Matt Ventures, LLC to delete your account and any submission that has not been approved. An approved place may remain as a public listing after the account is gone, without your name on it.

Children

One Earth is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
